We implemented a "Stand-by" list system for this season. This "List" was created to gather all single skiers and snowboarders so we can make up groups of 4 people so we are able to confirm the day heliskiing at the most favorable price on any given day , even some days in advance.

Guides Training

Guides Training in the Pyrenees 

 

Last week about fifteen Spanish, French and Swiss guides attended  2 days of guides training at our base in Vielha. The first part of the course was about snow stability , stability evaluations  and risk management . This was given by George Robbi, our snow safety officer  .

The second part was about 1st.aid treatment, rescue techniques  and medical treatment given   by the fire & rescue team of Vielha at their base, followed by a session on helicopter evacuation at the heliport. 

 

 

Guides Training in Sestriere [Italy] 

 

Eric Carquillat of the local Pure Ski Company invited 40 guides and ski instructors of the area (Briançon - La Grave-Genèvre Mount - Sestrières) to attend the Seminar of George on our “Powder Management” system which deals with snow stability evaluation & risk management for heliski operations which we created and developed for Turkey Heliski.

Last Frontier Heliski, Canada

Another option for this winter!

Following the cancelation of the season 2012 in Turkey, George Rosset, our compatriot and founder of Last Frontier Heliskiing, has kindly proposed us to welcome our Private groupe next winter.

 If you don't know this destination yet, destination that offers an exclusive area of more than 9,500 km2 in the Skeena and Coast Mountains on the North of British Columbia, we will introduce it to you ina few words.

Goerge Rosset left Switzerland in 1991 direction Canada. He founded TLH Heliskiing next to Whistler Mountain before starting, in 1995, in is favourite location with Last Frontier Heliskiing. This destination covers huge area in the north of BC and east of the panhandle of Alaska.

He owns now 2 lodges: Bell 2 Logde and Ripley Creek.

As in Turkey, he proposes packages with small helicopters that load 5 groups of 5 skiers maximum and 1 guide.

 NEW FIRMWARE (version 3.2) OF MAMMUT PULSE

Mammut has created a new version for the Pulse Barryvox’s setup. You can install it on your  Mammut Pulse but only after making an update. You can do the update in the Mammut stores and it costs between 30 and 40 Fr.

Turkey Heliski bought the updater device in order to test regularly its Pulse instruments and keep them updated.

You can also do the update on your Pulse Barryvox in our base in the
Pyrenees during your heliski stay !

The winter season knocks at the door!

The winter atmosphere is taking place in the Val d’Aran now that the first peaks are covered by snow!

 

The most passionate skiers start to noticed that and bookings are increasing day after day! With typical Spanish style, we will be glad to welcome you with us this winter and offer you great heliski and more!

Stays of one week, a few days or just a week end, everything is possible in the Pyrenees, either for experts or for beginners. The beauty of the villages, hotels and Tapas bars will do the rest ! The day on the skis, as well as the discovery of excellent restaurant at night, is an experience not to be missed.

Cancellation of next season in Turkey

It is with sadness that we must unfortunately cancel next season in Turkey.Since this summer, Turkish Civil Aviation decided to put a disproportionately tax on foreigner's  helicopter imported for heliski activity. We understood that they put a so high tax to favor Turkish helicopters companies. The aberration of this measure is that currently we don't find in Turkey the resources needed to organize heliskiing in order to respect the safety and quality standards that we had practiced these past 7 years. Presently, in Turkey, there is only one single Turkish helicopter fully equipped for heliskiing. We want to have 2 helicopters to ensure the safety of our clients and our staff. For the same safety reasons, it's imperative that the helicopters are flying with experienced pilots for this activity. Presently, the Turkish pilots don't have the adequate training for these flights. Therefore, we must be able to use  foreign pilots to ensure the safety and economic viability of our activity.As it is out of the question to change our standards about safety and quality, we must unfortunately cancel next season in Turkey.Now, it's the competence of the Turkish authorities to establish an appropriate regulation for this activity. It's also essential that the Turkish Civil Aviation understands that it is still too early to impose the Turkish pilots for this activity. It's imperative to organize an adequate training so that the Turkish pilots would have, one day, the abilities for this job.We hope that we will succeed to convince the Turkish Authorities to follow us in our struggle to preserve the quality of heliskiing in Turkey.  If Turkey and Civil Aviation don't wish to follow this way, we will not have any other choice that to let them do their own experiments.The recovery of our activities in Turkey can be made only if Turkish Civil Aviation changes their decision and if the Turkish Authorities support us and decide to regulate this new activity.We remain optimistic about our future in Turkey. As soon as we will solve this problem with the authorities, we will be able to open again the new bookings for the winter 2012-2013.In this expectancy, our activities will focus on our Spanish destination, Pyrenees Heliski. We will also propose you more destinations that will join the Heliski.pro brand.

PYRENEES HELISKI: Heli-snowshoes. A new product for this winter

In order to make possible the access to the Val D'Aran mountains also for no-skiers, we propose rides with snowshoes that don't require any physical requirement. The rides will be organized in flat terrain or downhill, with a helicopter access flight. This half-day or full-day activity is specially addressed to all no-skiers who follow the family in a ski holidays and to all enterprises that spend some time in the valley for a seminar. This ride can be completed by a brunch in the mountain.

TRAINING COURSES

Guides from TURKEY HELISKI, PYRENEES HELISKI, VALGRISENCHE HELISKI and VERTIKALNY MIR met up last week for a three-day training course in preparation for 2010 heliskiing season.

SNOW PACK CONDITIONS & COMPRESSION TESTS

The programme included a day devoted to the study of snow conditions. The day was organised by George Robbi who oversaw guides as the analysed pits in the powder snow.

George, who used to work with the Milford Road Avalanche Program in New Zealand, also talked to participants about compression tests. These are tests used to study the stability of the snow pack by detecting weak layers and any failures in these layers.

NEW PULSE BARRIVOY FROM MAMMUT

The following day there was a presentation on the theory and use of a avalanche transceiver, the Mammut Pulse Barryvox.

Starting this year, all of our guides and clients will carry these new transceivers.
